Kiwanis Club of Camarillo
September 3, 2008 Board meeting minutes
Prior to the meeting, Bill Adams
provided an excellent meal for attendees. During this time
there was a great deal of general discussion about club
activities. These discussions were not documented but the
important points were repeated during the regular meeting
and are reported below.

Business;
Review of Special Board Meeting of
the 2008-09 board on August 20, 2008. Present were Don
Medley, Darryl Sobelman, Bob Gaboury, Linda Thayer-Gaboury,
Cecilia Rexford, Anne Zachry, Ron Shively, Bill Adams, Joe
Dilibert, Allen Grizzard-Paul. Items discussed were mostly
the budget for the 2008-09 year.
Moved by Don Medley that Camarillo
Kiwanis Club contribute $17 per member as of September 30,
2008 to support the Lt. Governor for the 2008-09 year,
seconded by Cecilia Rexford, passed. Bob Gaboury moved that
the Club provide $200 for Bertha ( the grandmother that is
raising her grand children) so she can get school supplies
for them, Darryl Sobelman seconded, passed.
Review of Special Board Meeting
August 27, 2008. Present were Bill Adams, Bob Gaboury,
Darryl Sobelman, Walter Metcalf, Cecilia Rexford, Carole
Warren, Marge Leszczynski, Don Medley. Walter Metcalf
presented a project by the CAF Museum. Moved by Darryl
Sobelman that the Club provide $100 in support of the
project, seconded by Bob Gaboury, Passed with Cecilia
Rexford abstaining.

Passed.
Drawing for Dunlap Award - Walt
Metcalf
Drawing for the Bingo Board Dunlap - Space D1. Award to be
presented at the Installation of Officers Dinner.
Sgt. York memorial
- Don Medley
Reported that this memorial plaque
to be located in France. A contribution would result in a
banner patch and inclusion of the Club name on the memorial.
Walt Metcalf moved, Cecilia Rexford seconded that Don
Medley check on the level of contribution levels and report
back to the board.
Rose Float Medal.
- Don Medley
The Rose Float Committee is selling
a limited number of metals for $1000 each to raise money to
establish an endowment fund to support Float efforts. Item
tabled for consideration by the 2008-09 board.
Kiwanis Doctors
-Anne Zachry/Joe Dilibert
Anne Zachry described the program.
Kiwanis Doctors would provide a training session for health
care workers. It would offer continuing education credits
to attendees. It requires a meeting location, some
duplication services and meals and break snacks. It is
expected that a local hospital would provide these items.
Moved by Bob Gaboury, seconded by Cecilia Rexford to purse
this project. Passed. Anne will continue checking on
resources.
Peanut Day
Joe Dilibert was not present but
October 25, 2008 has been set as Peanut Day Saturday.
Signup sheets will be passed at a future regular meeting.
Installation of
officers
Tuesday September 30, 2008 at the
Lemonwood Community Club House in Ventura (Corner of
Johnson Road and Telephone Road. More information and sign
up sheet at a future regular meeting.
Liability Insurance
Bob Gaboury reported that this had
been previously discussed and $600 has been budgeted to
support this insurance.
Foundation 501(3)
- Bob Gaboury/Don Medley
Doug Hill reported that he has
received and responded to correspondence from both the State
and Federal agencies. He believes we will have a positive
response to this effort in the next month or so. There was
much discussion about the need for this designation as it
will greatly help our fund raising efforts for the Celtic
Fair and the 5k-10k Race as well as any other fund raising
we do.
Don Medley reported that Pete Horton
from Division Headquarters reported at the Convention that
both the Optimist and Kiwanis International offices has
reported that their 501©3 efforts do not look good. They
have both received lots of negative correspondence from the
federal commissions.
Aktion Club
- Cecilia Rexford
Cecilia Rexford reported that with
the support of Walt Metcalf and the Club at large, she will
be the Club mentor for a new Aktion Club. This effort will
require some financial support from the Club, particularly
payment for a Chartering Meeting. There are some funds
already in the new budget. If more is needed, she will
bring them to the board.
Recycle Activity

New member -
Jim Jacobs needs orientation so we can complete his
application.
Walt Metcalf, Bill Adams and Don
Medley conducted the orientation session after the board
meeting ended.
Check for Alex Hong
- Bob Gaboury/Don Medley
Alex Hong received one of our
scholarship and has submitted verification of his
enrollment at CSUN.
Date of the Camarillo
Christmas Parade - Don Medley
Second Saturday of December.
Support of the Salvation Army Bell Ringing will be scheduled
so it does not conflict with this effort.
OTHER BUSINESS
Walt Metcalf moved, Bob Gaboury
seconded that the Club contribute $100 to request for
support of a local Halloween program as we have supported
this effort in the past. Passed.
Carole Warren reported that Darryl
Sobelman has things pretty well underway for the Relay For
Life breakfast effort. There was general discussion about
contributions of food and setup efforts. Allen
Grizzard-Paul will head up the activities.
Jim Jacobs and Bill Adams discussed
the Celtic Fair effort. It was decided that the Fair
should be a two day affair and be held the last weekend in
April. There is a need for a five person committee to aid
tis effort. Jim and Bill will be handling development of
this effort.
There was discussion about support
for the “Make A Wish” foundation. Cecilia Rexford moved
that the Club contribute $200 to the foundation, seconded by
Carole Warren. Passed.
Cecilia Rexford reported that she
has accepted the position as SLP Director for the Turquoise
Division.
