Business;
Rio Mesa High School
Rio Mesa Spartan Newspaper requested promotion ad to
raise funds for the newspaper. Linda made a motion not to
support the newspaper this year and this was seconded by
Cecilia. After discussion, Linda modified her motion to
approach the Key Club to help them buy an ad to let the
school know what their plans are. Cecilia seconded this one
and all approved. Erin will approach the Key Club with this
offer at their next board meeting.
Christmas Parade
Joe read a letter from the Camarillo Christmas Parade
committee requesting donations. After a short discussion it
was agreed that we will continue to support them by
providing manpower for the VIP Shuttle and not provide any
monetary gifts.
DCM
Joe announced that the first DCM will be at the Salvation
Army headquarters in Oxnard on the 16th October.
Los Colinas School
Linda passed on a request from the Los Colinas School
Council for donations to help students with a starter kit
for school supplies. A number of kids whose parents have
fallen on hard times come to school without a back pack,
pencils or paper. Cecilia reported that she has a number of
starter kits left over from their annual collection. Bobbie
agreed to pick one of these up from Cecilia on Thursday. He
was also recommended that this would be a good project for
the Key Club or KIWINS as many of the other Middle Schools
must be having the same problem.
ARC
Erin said that ARC has an after school program that needs
funds to buy crayons and other supplies. The State funds
only cover the teacher salaries but not the supplies.
Cecelia proposed that this might be an excellent project for
the new Aktion Club. Although this club has started well on
community service projects this would be one that will teach
them about fund raising. Cecelia to follow up with Erin.
Advertising Video
Bill showed the one and half minute video of the book
reading at the library which was put
together by Jim Jacobs and lists all the Club Activities
with the children in the background. A number of suggestions
was made on how to make the video more effective (such as
remove the baby crying at the end), and these will be
reported back to Jim by Bill.
5K-10K Race
Allen and Linda reported on the 5K/10K Committee. This
year we are only going for corporate sponsors on the
t-shirts and eliminate the book due to high publishing costs
and lots of hard work collecting the small ads. The race
will be on the 4th April. Allen is going to put together a
letter similar to the one that we send out for peanut
donations. After the meeting Joe supplied samples of this
letter. We need to ask Walt if he could get things started
with the Star Free Press. Erin reported that she had all the
equipment for silk screening and kindly offered to silk
screen the shirts in exchange for an ad on the t-shirt. This
will be taken back to the next committee meeting.
Peanut Day
Joe announced that pre sales have been very good and we
are on schedule for making this a good fundraiser. However
he does still have lots of boxes in his garage if people
want peanuts for Halloween. Allen purchased two boxes.
